About
Mission
Our mission is to foster a collaborative environment for people to make creative things with technology.
What are we?
HackerspaceKL is a community-oriented hackerspace where people make creative things with technology. It will be a place for hackers, coders, geeks, makers, nerds, artists, students, and everyone from all walks of life to hang out and meet each other, work on projects and meet people with similar interest, conduct lectures, workshops, and tutorials, and share knowledge and resources such as electronic equipments, computer devices, and other gadgets. We are similar to other hackerspaces such as Metalab (Vienna, Austria), /tmp/lab (Paris, France), HacDC(Washington DC, USA), Randomdata (Utrecth, The Netherlands), Pumping Station: One (Chicago, IL, USA), and Tog (Dublin, Ireland). Regionally, we are dissimilar to HackerspaceSG (Singapore) due to our orientation towards DIY culture and tinkering, while theirs is more towards social gatherings and co-working.
We also fullfil our social and community role by conducting workshops, trainings and classes on electronics, Open Source, computer security, and any other subject.
What kind of stuff do you guys do?
We do a lot of DIY and tinkering, especially with Arduinos. We organize workshops, such as the FreeBSD essentials. We do Open Source stuff as well. We are open to any project ideas, as long as it involve doing creating things with technology, be it Open Source, electronics, computer security, robotics, or programming. For example, one of our members build QuarterK, a 16×16 LED matrix shield for Arduino.
